Think Tank of all German Start-up Universities

Get together of the think tank "Denkfabrik Gründerhochschule" at SCE

The representatives of all EXIST start-up universities in Germany have joined forces to create the think tank “Denkfabrik Gründerhochschulen”. Here, the participating universities can discuss how the topic of entrepreneurship and start-ups can be best promoted within the German higher education sector. In its work, the Denkfabrik Gründerhochschulen draws attention to the economic relevance of start-ups for society as a whole and the importance of anchoring the topic of entrepreneurship within the higher education sector and beyond.

In the first round of the competition “Die Gründerhochschule” (The Start-Up University), ten German universities succeeded in winning over the jury from the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology with their concepts for start-up support. Another 12 universities followed in 2013. The universities selected are considered excellent in terms of start-up promotion. Six of these universities were awarded the additional distinction of “EXIST Gründerhochschule”.

The initial meeting took place in 2012 at the Technische Universität Berlin’s Centre for Entrepreneurship, with the first follow-up meeting held at the Strascheg Center for Entrepreneurship at Munich University of Applied Sciences. The group in its present form, i.e. extended to 22 distinguished universities, met for the first time in June 2013 at the Technische Universität Dortmund. In their role as “Gründerhochschule”, these acclaimed universities see themselves as generators of ideas, commentators and providers of impetus for sociopolitical development.

Together, the universities drafted a white paper containing proposals for political action with regard to developing a start-up culture at universities. This white paper was submitted to the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology in July 2013.
