In order for universities to establish themselves as key players in the further development of start-up ecosystems and to fulfill this role comprehensively, they need a self-image as entrepreneurial universities. Systemic thinking in ecosystems is a prerequisite for this. Universities should be thought leaders in the field of entrepreneurship and, through new insights, both provide impetus for the further development of the topics of entrepreneurship, innovation and systemic transformation and apply these insights at the university, in the university environment and in the regional and international ecosystem.

At the same time, entrepreneurship research should support university faculties and disciplinary research areas to enrich their findings with systemic, department-specific business models. We believe that the overarching focus must be on Responsible Entrepreneurship; Systemic Innovation and Transformation Processes; Co-Creation and Entrepreneurial Ecosystems; and Entrepreneurial Universities.

Goals of Systemic Entrepreneurship Research

Together with the SCE, HM has bundled its entrepreneurship and entrepreneurship research activities in a cross-faculty manner. The following goals are pursued with the HM research activities together with the cooperation partners:

  • Establishment of a strong research network and use of synergies in the field of entrepreneurship and innovation through the bundling and cooperation of motivated, qualified and research-strong professors and researchers.
  • Increasing the quality and quantity of entrepreneurship research that has already been successful to date
  • Extension of our holistic approach, which expands vertical (technical) research topics with impact-oriented, systemic business models
  • Innovative creation of an attractive academic environment for promising regional, national and international young researchers at a University of Applied Sciences
  • Promote HM's profile as an entreprneurial university with entrepreneurship themes, leveraging the strengths of existing activities and future research priorities
  • Further increase in the number of Wissenschhaftler:innen, which successfully continues and enables public and private third-party funding, and facilitates the implementation of important research projects for all stakeholders in the future
  • Systematic use of application-related research results in order to derive new scientific impulses for the fields of "Responsible Entrepreneurship" and "Dynamic Innovation" again.
