Successful financing round: Sanacorp and SCE Freiraum Ventures invest in Aponia

Cooperative pharmaceutical wholesaler Sanacorp expands messenger service partnership with SCE alumni startup Aponia. SCE-affiliated early-stage investor SCE Freiraum Ventures is also invested. Aponia offers local pharmacies in cities a service for medication deliveries by bicycle from the pharmacy to the end customer.

Sanacorp has been working with the messenger service provider Aponia since 2020. Now the cooperative pharmaceutical wholesaler has acquired shares in the company. In doing so, Aponia and Sanacorp are expanding their previous partnership into a shareholding and underpinning a long-term service orientation in the interests of on-site pharmacies. The cooperation between the two companies is also growing at the operational level: Through a newly created interface, participating pharmacies of the mea store can now connect the messenger service Aponia directly to their online store. Processes in the pharmacy are thus significantly simplified and made more convenient.

Unlike other delivery options in the healthcare sector, Aponia acts on behalf of the individual pharmacy and thus differentiates itself significantly from other delivery concepts on the market. "For us, the stationary pharmacy is always the focus. Individuality, quality and drug safety are the guardrails of Aponia's concept - this fully coincides with our values. We have already been successful together on the market for two years and have received consistently positive feedback from our customers," says Frank Hennings, Member of the Management Board for Retail at Sanacorp. "The cooperation with Sanacorp has been very value-adding for us right from the start: access to the market is easier with an established partner at our side. Together with Sanacorp, we solve the logistical challenges in a digitalized world for the local pharmacy. The fact that we are now deepening this partnership, which has already been so successful, is a logical step for us," also emphasizes David Heid, CEO and co-founder of Aponia.

"The core competence of pharmacies is expert advice. With the Aponia messenger service as an additional relief, they can concentrate precisely on this so important service and no longer have to plan capacities for delivery," Hennings continues. Pharmacy customers increasingly want to order online and receive deliveries quickly. Particularly in view of the e-prescription, a service-oriented messenger service will become an increasingly relevant differentiating feature for stationary pharmacies in order to assert themselves with their own strengths against online mail order. "Aponia is the optimal partner for this," Hennings knows. "We expect the number of daily messenger services to triple in the next three years."

The collaboration also continues to grow on an operational level thanks to a newly created interface: participating pharmacies in the mea store can now link the Aponia messenger service directly to their online store. This makes pharmacy processes noticeably easier: for orders placed via the mea Shop, delivery via Aponia can now be triggered and monitored directly and without system interruption. With their range of services, Aponia and Sanacorp support their customers in maintaining and expanding their competitiveness - for reliable healthcare provision in Germany by local pharmacies.

Sanacorp is thus consistently driving forward the development of its comprehensive range of services. In addition to its core service in pharmaceutical wholesale, Sanacorp offers further solutions with the mea cooperation, SanaVendi, Sanacorp Connect and the cooperative courier service in order to jointly ensure the best possible supply for both pharmacies and end customers.

Sanacorp is the oldest pharmacy cooperative and one of the leading pharmacy-owned pharmaceutical wholesale companies in Germany. Since its foundation in 1924, the company has been characterized by courage and pioneering spirit. Sanacorp transports and lives the idea of the cooperative until today as well as in the future and strengthens the on-site pharmacies, also on the way to digitalization. Sanacorp's deep understanding of the needs of pharmacists helps to ensure a reliable and fast round-the-clock supply of pharmaceuticals and healthcare products to around 8,000 pharmacies nationwide, as well as offering comprehensive other services. In this way, Sanacorp always acts in the interests of pharmacists. At the head of the group of companies is Sanacorp eG Pharmazeutische Großhandlung and thus all members of the pharmacists' cooperative. With around 3,000 employees in 19 branches, Sanacorp achieved an operating turnover of around 5.9 billion euros with its companies in the financial year 2021. More at https://www.sanacorp.de/
