Omegga receives the silver medal in the EuroTier 2024 Innovation Award

Go back

SCE Alumni Startup Omegga is honored with the "Innovation Award EuroTier 2024" in silver for its product "Omegga One". Omegga One is a completely new solution for the poultry industry that makes it possible to determine the sex of laying hen chicks in the egg before the seventh day of incubation non-invasively and without damaging the embryo.

Innovation Award EuroTier 2024

EuroTier is a globally established leading trade fair for livestock professionals and a platform for the presentation of innovations in this sector. The presentation of the Innovation Award is intended to underline this innovation leadership. The Innovation Award is presented every two years on the occasion of EuroTier.

A neutral expert commission appointed by the DLG (German Agricultural Society) neutral expert commission has selected from a total of 214 approved novelty applications of all subject areas according to strict criteria. The jury awarded four gold and 21 silver medals.

The silver Innovation Award went to SCE Startup Alumni Omegga, among others:

Due to intensive breeding optimization for laying performance, rearing male chicks of laying breeds is not feasible. Since 2022, the routine killing of male chicks on the first day of life has been banned, making it necessary to reliably determine their sex while they are still in the egg.

By using non-invasive and cost-efficient AI-based spectroscopy, Omegga has significantly improved the technology for sexing laying hen chicks in the egg ("in ovo") with OmeggaOne. The newly developed system recognizes the sex up to the seventh day of incubation, whereby no chemical or physical intervention in the egg is required and the embryonic development of the chicks is therefore not impaired.

This avoids the unnecessary killing of male chicks from an ethical, animal welfare and sustainability perspective and increases efficiency by saving space and resources in the hatchery.
