Hand on heart: anyone who simply "lets AI run" in the company without taking care of governance is taking a high risk for their own reputation and liability.
The topic is not a "preventer", but the foundation on which we can safely innovate in the first place. In the SCE Friends & Fellows webinar, one thing became clear: it is not an IT issue, but a matter for the boss. Why this is also important for you:
1. get out of the blind flight. whether officially permitted or not: AI has long been used in your team (keyword Shadow AI). We need to create transparency where data flows - even in the standard software that we use every day. Only those who know what is happening can prevent the worst-case scenario.
2. trust is the new currency. governance makes us faster, not slower. Why? Because customers and partners, especially in the B2B sector, are taking a closer look. If you can prove that you are using AI responsibly, you will gain trust, shorten sales cycles and make compliance a real option.
3. making instead of blocking : we don't need a bureaucratic monster, but an "operating system" for AI. Clear rules and roles give the team the security to move quickly and independently without having to ask the legal department for every tool.
Conclusion: AI governance is like a seatbelt in a racing car. It's not there to slow us down, but so that we can accelerate with confidence.
Many thanks to Kai Michael Hermsen for his practical insights!
