Buildings have a significant impact on our environment, climate and quality of life. The construction industry consumes more than 50 percent of the resources available each year, consumes 40 percent of energy and generates 60 percent of waste. In order to achieve climate protection targets, construction must be further transformed for greater climate justice and sustainability and sustainability must be rethought and expanded. In order to establish the qualities and criteria of sustainable planning, construction and operation in the construction and real estate industry in Germany, the Sustainable Building Quality Seal (QNG) of the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Building (BMWSB) has been available since 2021. As part of the Federal Funding for Efficient Buildings (BEG), the Climate-Friendly New Construction (KFN) programme has been established as a KfW funding programme as an instrument of quality assurance for sustainable construction and sustainability certification. Up to now, new construction has primarily been assessed, while complete modernizations, renovations or extensions have not been taken into account extensively.
The symposium "Thinking sustainability further!" is the final event of the research project "Development of a model system for the sustainability assessment of residential buildings (new construction and refurbishment) and the "Further development of the QNG" at Munich University of Applied Sciences. The aim of the event is to provide impulses for the practice-oriented further development of the QNG for sustainable residential buildings and to think ecology, economy and social aspects further together. In addition to discussion forums, the participants in the pilot phase will be honored with project certificates. The research project is funded by the Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development (BBSR) on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Housing, Building and Urban Development (BMWBS) with funds from the Zukunft Bau research funding program.
