Bits & Pretzels 2024: Kickstart Europe

Go back

The Bits & Pretzels Conference 2024 was held under the inspiring motto "Kickstart Europe", and this year it once again provided a platform for the European startup scene to shape the future together. From sharing innovative ideas to deep insights into the latest technologies, the conference was a hotspot for entrepreneurs, innovators and investors from all over Europe. Thematically, Bits & Pretzels was all about European collaboration. Exciting panels and forward-looking keynotes discussed how Europe needs to strengthen its market in order to keep up with the USA and Asia in global competition.

Opening and the focus on cooperation

Bavarian State Secretary for Economic Affairs Tobias Gotthardt opened the conference and emphasized the importance of cooperation in building a sustainable start-up ecosystem. He emphasized that in a time of change and digitalization, only close cooperation can truly advance European startups. Economics Minister Robert Habeck also emphasized the central role that startups play for society:

"Startups are optimistic by design. This means startup companies believe in the possibility to do better than we are doing now. Optimism is better than cynicism, hope is better than fear, understanding and trying is better than knowing and pushing questions away. That's the true reason that we in Germany and in Europe need a thriving startup system. You [startups] give hope to society."

Startups in the spotlight: networking and visions at Bits & Pretzels

A key aspect of Bits & Pretzels 2024 was the opportunity for startups to present themselves and contribute their ideas to the dialog with other innovators and investors. Especially in times of change and digitalization, startups are the drivers of innovation and progress. We are delighted that some of our startups - including Gasvisor, Omegga, Breakable, CureVision and Coby - were there to share their visions with the world. The conference gave them the opportunity to network, forge new partnerships and gain valuable insights. It has been proven time and time again that the best ideas do not emerge alone, but through intensive exchange within a strong community.

Insights into AI, digital trends and transformation

Bits & Pretzels 2024 also offered exciting deep dives into the topics of artificial intelligence (AI), digital trends and transformation. In this context, the new AI NATION initiative was presented - a collaboration between AI+MUNICH and the Berlin-based K.I.E.Z., which will enable Germany-wide programs for AI start-ups. This alliance symbolizes the cooperative approach that will further strengthen Europe's innovative power.

Economics Minister Robert Habeck is also in favor of greater support for start-ups: "Financing start-ups is not charity, but an opportunity for entrepreneurial success." He emphasizes how important it is to give companies more freedom. Less regulation, especially in the field of artificial intelligence, and better access to capital should pave the way for European innovation.

European Pitch Contest - where ideas meet investors

A particular highlight of the conference was the European Pitch Contest, in which the Munich-based start-up ecoplanet emerged as the winner. With over 35 employees and more than 2,000 managed locations, ecoplanet is transforming the energy sector with its B2B energy software. Among the entries from over 30 countries, SCE Startup Alumni cureVision also impressed with their digital photo documentation and wound analysis, and were able to present their innovative business model to an international jury.

Values that unite: Open-mindedness, tolerance and diversity

We can only advance the goal of "Kickstart Europe" by working together and as a community. Together, we can advance the European start-up scene and bring about real change. The words of Finance Minister Christian Lindner summarize this aptly:

"To advance the German economy and a European ecosystem, we need cosmopolitanism, tolerance and diversity - and these values need allies in society."

The SCE stands for precisely these values - openness, tolerance and, in particular, diversity. The German and European start-up scene is colorful, and our funding approach reflects this: democratic (accessible to all), systemic (part of a larger whole) and responsible (acting responsibly). Do you already have a business idea or questions about starting up? We help budding founders and young start-ups with advice and a network to get your project off the ground. No matter where you are - we at the Strascheg Center for Entrepreneurship (SCE) at Munich University of Applied Sciences will support you. We accompany you from the idea to the foundation. We look forward to meeting you!

The discussions and new connections show us: the future of Europe is promising and we are shaping it together!
