DCUBED funded with 9.5 million euros from the EIC Accelerator 2024

SCE alumnus and spacetech startup Dcubed has been selected by the European Commission for the EIC Accelerator and will receive 9.5 million euros in funding. Out of 969 applications, the European Commission selected 68 startups, giving them access to grants and equity investments totaling 411 million euros. We congratulate the team on this phenomenal success!

The team, led by HM Professor Dr. Markus Pietras - Head of the Master's program in Aerospace Engineering - is delighted to have been selected as one of the 68 companies by the European Innovation Council (EIC) and the Executive Agency for SMEs (EISMEA). They would like to use the funding to drive forward their "ISM4Europe" project and integrate it into their products.

 

About Dcubed:

Dcubed, an innovative Munich-based startup and alumnus of the Strascheg Center for Entrepreneurship (SCE) Start-up League, develops and distributes advanced actuators and solutions for the commercial space industry and nanosatellites. The products include release mechanisms for deployable structures such as antennas or sails. Of particular note is the company's expansion into the field of 3D printing in space. In February 2025, Dcubed plans to print the back structure of a solar module directly on site during deployment in orbit - a groundbreaking technology that could significantly increase the efficiency and flexibility of the space industry. According to Dcubed, In-Space Manufacturing (ISM) is the key to overcoming the "tyranny of launch" (extreme mechanical stresses and tight volume constraints for complex components). ISM saves material and overcomes dimensional and mass limitations. Dcubed uses ISM to manufacture solar arrays in the weightlessness of space that meet increasingly high performance requirements at a fraction of the cost of conventional solar arrays.
