The EXIST-Gründerstipendium is a funding program of the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection. Through coaching as well as financial support, the EXIST-Gründerstipendium is an important pillar in the further development of HEALYXZ.
About every fifth person in the world suffers from back pain. For the German economy, back pain causes an annual productivity loss of more than four billion euros. The HEALYXZ team, consisting of Paul Thouet, Thomas Sonnenstuhl, Timur Avci, Anmol Kawatra and Elias Schmid, aims to restore the quality of life of pain sufferers through a new form of therapy used to treat intramuscular pain. To this end, the team is developing a wearable, wireless and rechargeable heat-cold patch. The medical device, which is worn on the skin, can be controlled via an app and the comfort temperature can be targeted and individually adjusted. As a special feature, the app offers the execution of pre-programmed temperature cycles, which are tailored to different types of pain. Through adjustable temperatures or the alternation of heat and cold, HEALYXZ enables pain relief with increased healing progress and is more effective than pure cold or heat applications, which are often only available as disposable products.
Prof. Dr. Erwin Steinhauser of FK06 supports the founding team as a mentor and through his expertise in the medical device industry, especially in the upcoming approval as a certified medical device.
The incubation in the SCE as well as the financial support by the EXIST-Gründerstipendium enable HEALYXZ to further develop the heat-cold patch and to implement the regulatory requirements for medical devices.
