New teaching format at HM: "Advanced Real Project" combines start-up teaching with practical start-up preparation

Go back

As part of its entrepreneurship teaching, HM Hochschule München University of Applied Sciences is introducing a new teaching format, the Advanced Real Project, which specifically closes the gap between classic start-up teaching and practical start-up support. Prof. Dr. Dünnebeil (Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics), Prof. Dr. Maisch (Faculty of Applied Natural Sciences and Mechatronics) and Prof. Dr. Wach (HM Business School) are responsible for the concept and implementation.

The course is aimed at advanced students with an interest in founding a company who have already gained initial experience in the field of entrepreneurship - e.g. through previous courses. The Advanced Real Project is thus designed as an in-depth and advanced course within HM's structured entrepreneurship offering, which ranges from early awareness-raising to incubation at the Strascheg Center for Entrepreneurship (SCE).

The Advanced Real Project focuses on the concrete development, validation and implementation of your own business ideas. Contents include agile development methods, lean startup, prototyping, market and competition analysis, customer identification and validation, team building and leadership, networking and pitching. The curriculum is based on the latest scientific findings in entrepreneurship education.

Four teams took part in the first round, all of which developed IT-driven solutions. The project ideas ranged from a digital parking management system to improve capacity utilization, a platform to reduce bureaucracy for midwives, a CRM and price calculation solution for used car dealers and an app to increase efficiency in nightclub operations.

Initial experience from the course shows that additional impetus through targeted coaching or matching formats is particularly helpful in the early phase of idea validation - for example when conducting interviews or market research. At the same time, the results illustrate the great potential of the format to effectively promote entrepreneurial thinking in an academic context. The findings from the course will be validated as part of accompanying scientific research and will be continuously incorporated into the further development of future formats.

In future, the Advanced Real Project will be offered in the winter semester. There are plans to link it more closely with the SCE Precelerator, the Community Space for Entrepreneurship & Prototyping at HM.

Note:
The Advanced Real Project course will be offered on Mondays from 10:00 to 13:15 in the winter semester 2025.
