Go back

"Unternehmer:innen live erleben" is back! On October 24, 2024, the Strascheg Center for Entrepreneurship (SCE) invites founder, investor and author Tijen Onaran as part of the "Unternehmer live erleben" event. In the packed Falk F. Strascheg Lecture Hall at Munich University of Applied Sciences, Onaran will talk about her path to self-employment and the challenges she has overcome as an entrepreneur. She talks about bumpy beginnings, perseverance and why this is particularly important for founders, about courage and confidence in oneself and one's own abilities and why all of this is completely independent of origin or gender. The evening will be hosted by Sonja Wilhelm and Michael Hack.

Onaran provides insights into her experiences and describes how she entered politics without any previous political experience and was the first in her family to do so. In politics in particular, she often feels like an outsider, the only woman, the only one with a history of migration and often the youngest in the room. These experiences shape her attitude to diversity today.

She highlights three "moments of courage" as particularly formative: entering politics, becoming self-employed and the associated resignation from a "secure" job, and the decision to take part in the TV show "Die Höhle der Löwen". In all situations, she relies on her personal network of family, friends and supporters and emphasizes the importance of strong relationships that remain strong even in difficult times.

She explains: "You don't need 15 people to believe in you [...], sometimes one person is enough" and emphasizes that the quality of a network is revealed in moments of failure.

This "one person" could also be the SCE. Do you have a great idea yourself and need support with your start-up? Book a free initial consultation with the SCE start-up consultancy now.

In the subsequent Q&A session, participants will discuss topics such as visibility, the challenges of founding a company and the balance between passion and theoretical foundations with Onaran.

She emphasizes: "Startups and entrepreneurship always means: creating trust and maintaining trust."

Three founders of SCE alumni startups - Puray, complant and Yalité - will then pitch their business ideas and receive valuable feedback from Onaran that is specifically tailored to their projects and pitches.

The evening will conclude with relaxed networking over snacks and drinks. The Strascheg Center for Entrepreneurship would like to thank all the helpers and the engaged audience who enriched the evening with their questions and willingness to talk, and of course Tijen Onaran for her inspiring insights.
