nexpaper is reimagining paper production: smart, efficient, and sustainable. nexpaper’s AI-powered assistance system helps paper manufacturers—who struggle with inefficiencies, quality fluctuations, and a shortage of skilled workers—reduce waste and downtime while improving quality and sustainability.
The team consists of:
- Jan Wollschläger (CEO) – responsible for product development and strategy. Currently in his 7th semester studying Packaging Engineering and Paper Process Engineering (specializing in Paper and Biofibers) at Faculty 05 of Munich University of Applied Sciences.
- Moritz Westerkamp (COO) – responsible for finance and product development. He is in his 7th semester studying Packaging Engineering and Paper Process Engineering (specializing in Paper and Biofibers) at Faculty 05 of Munich University of Applied Sciences

The team is supported by Dr. Herbert Gillig, an exist mentor and professor in Faculty 09 (Industrial Engineering) at Munich University of Applied Sciences, who has been providing the team with technical and entrepreneurial expertise since the EXIST application was submitted. nexpaper has also been receiving funding since October 2025 as part of the SCE Incubation program. As early as 2025, the team won the Strascheg Award, the SCE’s ideas competition at Munich University of Applied Sciences.
“We are very pleased about the exist funding. It helps us turn our vision of a data-driven, efficient, and sustainable paper industry into reality.” Moritz Westerkamp, COO of nexpaper
“nexpaper addresses a real problem in a long-established industry with a well-founded and scalable approach. The EXIST grant confirms the potential of this team, and I’m happy to accompany the three of them on this journey.” Dr. Herbert Gillig, exist mentor, Faculty 09 Industrial Engineering, Munich University of Applied Sciences
