In ten days, impressive fighting machines were created from the construction kits provided and a lot of creativity. Students from various HM departments, the Munich Motorsport Crew and the SCE startup Hebio worked late into the night, supported by the Precelerator's tech experts. Their goal: to put the strongest, most robust and most creative robot on wheels. The idea was initiated by Patrick Pützkaul and Lucas Egglseder.
The battles took place in a specially built arena in the basement of the W building. Before the duels, a panel of experts - consisting of Prof. Ruth Maria Otto (HM Laboratory for Automation Technology and Robotics), Philipp Schmutz (Head of Hardware Development at Magazino), Dr. Camila Londono (SCE New Venture Creation) and Leo De Avila (startup coach and prototyping expert at SCE) - evaluated the robots for design, stability and functionality.
In the duels, the "Knäckebrot" team came out on top with their robot "Quattro Formaggi" and took first place - an impressive result for the first-year students from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (FK03). The Munich Motorsport Crew took second place, closely followed by the "Ausschussbande". Finally, there was a big battle royale in which all (still manoeuvrable) robots competed against each other.
After the battles, a meet & mingle with pizza and drinks, sponsored by Würth Electronics and E.V.I., offered the opportunity to exchange ideas. Around 100 visitors took the opportunity to find out more about the Precelerator's offerings and sponsored start-ups or to talk to other robotics fans and the teams.
The often still inexperienced teams proved that intrinsic enthusiasm is crucial for the implementation of a project - similar to founding a start-up. Over the course of ten days, the technology enthusiasts practised start-up skills such as prototyping, improvisation, teamwork and creative thinking in a fun way - in line with the principles of the SCE. Following the positive response to the event, the Precelerator is planning to become a more frequent arena for cooperative technology projects in future. So stay tuned.
