ecomates is EXIST funded!

Go back

After successfully completing Batch #8 of the SCE Incubation Program (formerly SCE Start-up Certificate) and a strong second place at the Strascheg Award 2022 in the category "Best business idea during the study period", ecomates has now been able to announce another highlight. Since the end of 2023, the team has been supported by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection and the European Social Fund as part of the EXIST program.

The EXIST start-up grant is a funding program of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection. Through coaching and financial support, the EXIST start-up grant is an important pillar in the further development of ecomates.

ecomates is developing the "Smart-Degrader". This is a home biogas plant that converts domestic organic waste into biogas, which can then be used as an energy source for heating and cooking. The team sees the plant as "an innovative and urgently needed piece of the energy transition puzzle in the private sector" and thus offers a weather-independent, climate-friendly alternative to fossil fuels such as heating oil or natural gas.

The team is an association of graduates and students from all Munich universities who came together due to their motivation for ecological, technical solutions. ecomates are Eric Bochert, Cosima Aeschbach, Valentin Grabmaier and David Daberto.

Special thanks go to the founding team's mentor Prof. Dr. Herbert Gillig and the team's founding advisor Dr. Camila Londoño for their support and expertise.

After initial prototypes and feasibility tests, ecomates approached Munich University of Applied Sciences and went through Batch 8 of the SCE Start-Up Accelerator. Over the last few years, ecomates has been able to convince many important people of its approach and win various prizes, such as the special prize for "best development achievement" in the PlanB competition.

Now ecomates has received the EXIST start-up grant from the BMWK, which is an important step towards market entry. The team now wants to invest the time and resources gained in this way in the development of the pilot series system with the aim of launching it at the beginning of 2025. Anyone interested can already register for this on the ecomates website (eco-mates.de).

"Starting a company out of a garage is considered a fairy tale by many. However, we are delighted that Munich University of Applied Sciences, and the SCE in particular, has taken us seriously and helped us to make this fairy tale come true." - David Daberto, ecomate.

We wish the whole team all the best and look forward to accompanying you on your exciting journey.
