Recap: Social X Factor 2023

Go back

From 19 to 26.07.2023 the Real Project "Social X Factor" took place. The block seminar is an absolute highlight for us every year. This year, 20 teams pursue one goal together for one week: They develop ideas in an interdisciplinary team, 2023 on the topic of "Sustainable Urban Development". The final event took place on July 26 in the pavilion of the Design Faculty.

At the end of the summer semester every year, about 100 - 150 students from different faculties come together in this special Real Project to work in interdisciplinary teams on a social challenge in a block seminar. In just one week, they develop innovative ideas and working prototypes. This semester the topic is SUSTAINABLE CITY DEVELOPMENT incl. the topics: Urban Mobility, Circular Economy.

Embedded in the guiding principle of the New European Bauhaus of designing cities and neighborhoods according to the principle beautiful - sustainable - together, the teams will deal with participation in colorful and active neighborhoods, attractive and sustainable housing and living environments, as well as innovative learning and working places. The students will receive inspiration and content for the challenges to be solved from the lighthouse project "NEBourhoods", which is being carried out in the Neuperlach district of Munich by several Munich partner organizations until the end of 2024.

The Social X Factor is a high-intensity block seminar week and Real Project at Munich University of Applied Sciences. The goal of the format is to develop innovative, holistic and sustainable social business ideas and prototypes on changing topics. Students from various courses of study from applied social sciences, business administration and technology to design, tourism and interdisciplinary courses of study are involved.

The Social X Factor is a team competition. A total of about 20 interdisciplinary teams compete with their developed business ideas and prototypes. The teams are supervised by mentors from the participating faculties and the SCE. Professionally coached by their lecturers, the resulting ideas are as diverse as the courses of study of the 100 team members from 6 faculties.

At our Social X Factor finals, the interdisciplinary student teams present their proposed solutions for sustainable urban development after an intensive week of problem analysis, idea development and prototyping. The winners were chosen by the audience, and the crowdvoting's favorite idea is awarded.

It is amazing what can be created in 1 week. Now, satisfied-exhausted students and faculty join us full of positive inspiration & energetic energy to start the semester summer break!
