Gründungsradar 2022: HM & SCE take first place in the ranking of start-up support at German universities and universities of applied sciences

HM Hochschule München University of Applied Sciences and its Strascheg Center for Entrepreneurship (SCE) occupy the top position in the Gründungsradar 2022 in the category "Large Universities" (over 15,000 students).

As Gründungsradar writes on its website: "HM Hochschule München University of Applied Sciences succeeds in jumping to first place with excellent results in all building blocks and 58.9 out of a possible 60 points. In Gründungsradar 2020, it was still in second place."

"We are very happy and also proud about this confirmation of our pioneering role in the promotion of start-ups in the German university and universitiy of applied sciences landscape," said Prof. Dr. Martin Leitner, President of HM, delighted about the success. "I was particularly pleased with HM's excellent ratings across the board, i.e. in all seven building blocks. Nevertheless, we are not at all thinking of leaning back," he continues, "because the Gründungsradar ranking also makes one thing clear: the density at the top is high and there are many very good universities and HAWs that are doing extraordinary things in entrepreneurship teaching, founding and transfer."

"The ranking also makes clear how well we can fulfill our role and self-image as an entrepreneurial university in the Munich innovation ecosystem," adds Prof. Dr. Thomas Stumpp, Vice President of Business at HM. "Together with our partners, we want to build bridges between science and business as well as civil society. This succeeds on the one hand through the founding of start-ups but also through entrepreneurial employees and well-trained specialists in knowledge, technology & idea transfer in this economic metropolis."

"We see the ranking as a call to work together with as many colleges and universities as possible to further spread the important topics of entrepreneurship and start-ups," summarizes Prof. Dr. Klaus Sailer, CEO of the SCE. "Last year we celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Strascheg Center at HM and we have achieved a lot during this time. In the meantime, we have grown together with our partners, both regionally and increasingly internationally, into a connected startup ecosystem to create impact and seek entrepreneurial answers together, for the challenges, both small and large, that we face."

With the Gründungsradar 2022, the Stifterverband thus examined the quality of start-up support at German universities qualitatively and quantitatively for the eighth time and presents it comparatively. The Gründungsradar is the most important ranking for start-ups and entrepreneurship at German universities of applied sciences and universities. After 2012 and 2016, in 2022 HM with its Entrepreneurship Center SCE has already taken the top position for the third time. Click here for the results.
